Laparoscopic surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery performed using a small video camera mounted on a fiber optic laparoscope, which allows the surgeon to see inside by viewing the transmitted video images on a screen and perform procedures using elongated surgical instruments. The camera and tools are inserted into the cavity of the patient through small incisions in the wall, usually via specially designed guide tubes known as "doors"
